This is an amazing, cute, fun, story. It is so much fun to read to my boys. My husband says i like the book even more than them. These authors are amazing!

The combination of text style, the story and illustration is fantastic. At the beginning, there is a map of docks and anchorage where big ships are waiting for the tugboat. Then there are illustrations/story about three different tug jobs. We go back and forth to find what route the tugboat took to tug each ship and where each ship ends up. My son is already looking out for the other books by this author-illustrator pair:). We bought a used book and it arrived as good as new:).

From age 1 to now (just over two years) my son has been obsessed with "I Stink!" from the McMullans (he even surprised us one day by reciting all of the alphabet "stinky" items from the book!). We bought "I'm Dirty"... same thing. "I'm Mighty" is no exception - we read it every night without fail (at least once). I now buy these books for gifts for toddler friends - they are easy to read, entertaining, and they just love them! Mommy and daddy love them too - thanks for another great book (we'll wait for more)!

I checked this book out of the library over the summer and my son loved it so much that he continued to ask to read it even after we had to return it to the library so I decided to get it for him for Christmas. He was so excited when he saw it Christmas morning that rather than play with his toys he wanted to read "I'm Mighty" (as well as the other books from this series... "I'm Dirty" and "I Stink"). It's been over a month since Christmas and he still wants to read it at least once a day! It's a great book and the fact that it makes him want to read makes me love it all the more! I definitely recommend it!

5 stars.In this last volume of Jesus: Mything in Action, David Fitzgerald takes us back in time to investigate the historical events responsible for the origin of the myth of Jesus Christ; the humble origins of Christianity, its chronological and geographical growth, and the reasons why Orthodoxy (later known as Catholicism) won the battle for minds, politics and culture against other competing sects to become the official religion of the Roman Empire during the 4th century.The book starts by taking the reader in an imaginary journey back to the first third of the first century CE only to find no spectacular preacher under the name of Jesus of Nazareth and to realize that none of the people of Galilee by then know anything about his existence, lest about the sermons, sayings, miracles and deeds attributed to him in the New Testament. That discovery triggers an eight hundred years investigative journey starting on the 4th century BCE when Jerusalem -so far dominated by the Persian empire- capitulates to Alexander the Great during his six years conquer of the empire of Darius III of Persia, then to the revolution of the Maccabees against the Seleucid Empire in 167 BCE; the first Roman Jewish war and the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem in 70 CE; the cosmic Jesus postulated by Paul in his epistles, the diffusion of the legend of a terrenal Jesus via the first gospel (i.e. the Gospel according to Mark wrote shortly after the destruction of the temple, most likely by 73-74 CE) and its plot created deliberately to give the appearance of a fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament; the evolution of the humble Jesus depicted by the author(s) of Mark to the more spiritual and miraculous Jesus of Matthew, Luke, Acts and Hebrews, to end with the Super Jesus of John; the alteration, adulteration, doctoring, suppression and addition to the original texts (letters, gospels, historical references, etc) made by the early christians, many of them Fathers of the Church; the battle of the Orthodox doctrines against the dozens of competing Christian sects in the first three centuries of the Common Era; the creation of the New Testament as a reaction to the first exercise of compilation of ancient Christian writings by the apostate Marcion of Sinope; and finally the Edict of Milan which was the formal recognition of Christianism as a valid and free religion under the Roman Empire by Emperor Constantine the Great, whom, nonetheless, never abandoned his pagan religion including his offerings and sacrifices to Sol Invictus and who died being considered a god by his people and by himself. The main conclusion of Jesus: Mything in Action (astonishing for most of the people) is that what we know as Christianism can be explained without an existent historical Jesus.A must read for anyone interested in a scientific-skeptical analysis of the historicity of Jesus and of the history of Chistianism.

This was definitely a “page turner” in the sense that I came back to reading it every chance I got, and finished all three volumes. If you are not familiar with the historicism versus mythicism debate, you probably wouldn’t appreciate this book quite as much. I’ve been reading both sides of these issues since the about 2002, and have been in numerous conversations about the issues. The author’s intent is clear — to write a “definitive” summary of the subject so that no (obvious) page is left unturned. If you were to get to know the content of this book well, you could probably debate either side of the issue. The historicism side, in my view, is best represented by Bart Ehrman, an ex-Christian but one who still holds strongly that there was indeed an actual person you could have found with the proverbial time machine if you went back 2,000 years or so ago. He was on the Sam Harris podcast recently and his only two arguments for Jesus’ historicity were (a) no “serious” scholar denies Jesus’ historicity, and (b) there is evidence outside the Bible, such as in Josephus, that confirms his existence. That’s it! There’s no “secret” to the historicism argument that you are going to find elsewhere and the author adequately deals (at length) with all the arguments that I have personally encountered on the subject. He also deals at length with all of the mythicism arguments that I’ve encountered, and quite a few more that I never encountered. He seems to want to leave no stone unturned so that the other side can’t say, “Well, there is a lot of evidence that he refused to consider.” He writes like a man on a mission and I applaud him for the effort.If you are waffling about whether to delve into the subject, I would offer to you that none of the information is weird, esoteric, or in need of huge leaps of faith. It’s not like a book, say, about Jesus in India training as a yogi. This is all Bible 101 stuff, but asking the hard questions and pointing out some disturbing, but non-controversial, flaws in the story.My only gripe would be — I don’t like the $6.66 price tag just because it seems so antagonistic. Some sincere Christians might forego buying the book simply because the price is offensive or makes them feel like they are doing something evil just by looking at it (they will already feel guilty enough even though 99% of their pastors, professors, etc... are familiar with the subject — it is truly Christianity’s “best kept secret” because it contains career-ending information that would get you fired from the pulpit or the classroom just for considering some of the obvious facts out loud).Two other book recommendations: the author’s Vol. 1 on Mormonism is excellent. I felt like a veritable expert on the subject after reading it. It’s also a good read before the Jesus series because it shows you, incontrovertibly, how a religion can be made up from whole cloth and STILL have adherents willing to die for it in a few short years. Second, Jesus Christ Sun of God by David Fideler. It goes into more detail about the use of Gematria by Mark and the other evangelists, which the Mything in Action series can only touch upon.The author ends the three notes with the acknowledgment that, even though these books have many chapters and ideas, they only scratch the surface on the subject. He also humbly acknowledges that he may be wrong and would be willing to change if (by some crazy miracle) evidence became available to prove (with even a mild amount of probability) that there was a historical Jesus in Palestine 2000 years ago.

Most of the material in this book summarizes more scholarly studies by other Jesus Mythicists, but David Fitzgerald presents it in a different way so that it is easier to read, and more fun. His evidence is overwhelming, and the logic is compelling. Volume III is a fresh new approach because it adds some very perceptive insights by showing the development of Christianity in the context of other historical events. I waited a long time for Mything in Action, and the book was worth it.

And now Fitzgerald! A very enlightening experience and extremely highly recommended to anyone and everyone who thirsts for more information without faith interfering.

One figures there's a real history to the formation of Christianity; the H.G.Wells approach is worth the price of admission.

As a fan of the works of Robert Price and Richard Carrier, I was surprised that Fitzgerald had anything to add to the mythicism discussion. Even if he hadn't, the presentation is so readable and enjoyable that the book and the whole set are well worth reading.

I was so excited to read this book. I am fond of chess and it’s my all time favorite game. This book is very amazing, I had learned many tips from this book. The tricks used in this book were very tricky and need to practice more. I enjoyed every tricks and I had used some of it while playing. I had become the champ in chess in my locality. Many children came to ask me to tell them my secrets which make me feel happy.Well chess is a really challenging game and it’s very good for our brain too. If you want to learn chess then you can read this book. It is written in simple language so any one can read it and learn from it. Highly recommended. You will be amazed with these tricks.

Chess is an interesting play and international play. I was in chess club earlier, and I thought I was good, but I wanted to get more competitive. It has some rules of the game and some instructions on how to play it. Everything was discussed briefly. The book was quick and to the point, and I especially liked the sections on castling and closings. The diagrams were also very useful. I'm looking forward to trying out some of these strategies the next time I play a friend, or any other online player. Good book for beginners to learn about chess.

I like playing chess because it is a funny game and it really sharps my brain. I purchased this book for increasing my skill. This book discusses about the basic of chess and provides some strong tactics and strategies for winning. It were easy to remember and not so difficult. I appreciate it that this book is written in a clear cut manner. It can be understood even by beginners. It covers the basics of the game you need to know. This is a superb book about chess and how to turn yourself from a beginner to a great player. The book starts from the basics like how does the board work and the significance of various pieces and goes onto explain various techniques. The book has been written very well and is easy to understand. The techniques explained keep getting complex and as a player the book keeps updating you level.Overall, I highly recommend this book.

Improving the playing technique and strength in chess is always a good way to win each game. I have this book to learned more and it never fails me. I got and know a lot of technique and tactics now. I am excited playing my next game and apply what I learned. I will share this book to my husband who also loves to play chess so much.

Excellent book about chess but you have to love chess to understand what is going on. In some of the examples i set up my chessboard to follow the moves and some of the games were fantastic. Anyway when you learn under the Grandmasters you will pick up something new. All in all an excellent book

Wow. Bad. You get a glued and sealed pamphlet basically with very basic beginner info about chess. Not for serious players. For the price I honestly couldn’t believe what I got.

Well, it's never too late to learn how to play chess at my age of 35, lol..... I've heard that one of the smartest game is Chess. And yes I am agree with that. Now, this book is my great guide, my basic tutorial in learning Chess. It's kinda fun in playing Chess after reading this book. You can learn the techniques and best moves here. You feel like he’s a buddy from school who followed his dream and made it big. But was still your buddy.

I would recommend this book to everyone who moved from Asia to America. Jimmy is a funny guy; his jokes made my stomach hurt from laughing too much. Even though I didn't know Jimmy was an actor and half of his book focused on his way to success in Hollywood, I still think this book is inspiring and worth the read.

I really enjoyed this. Jimmy's story is relatable to a lot of modern first-gen Asian immigrants trying to find their way in Western society without leaving their home culture behind. Even more important than the story are the insights he shares with it, and arguably the most important ones come from the point where he thinks he "made it."It's a quick read, too.

Being a fan of his work, I constantly had a mental picture of the author going through his life experiences. I was smiling most of the time I was reading this book. It is a great story during a time where we can use a reminder of what makes America great.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. Jimmy O. Yang describes his inner feelings and aspirations as a young immigrant in a thoughtful and touching way. His successes are impressive, and I predict a bright and productive future for him.

Wow. I have been a fan of Jimmy O. Yang for a good while, and I must say this was a very well written autobiography of an immigrant who overcame adversity to achieve what he ultimately considers his American Dream. I'm a fan of underdog stories, and I honestly read this book from beginning to end in one day. It was difficult to stop reading without satisfying my curiosity about Mr. O. Yang's journey into success while also finding his experiences somewhat similar to my own. I hope, one day, Mr. O. Yang translates this into a feature film to which I would most definitely watch. A must read for anyone who has ever felt like an underdog who feels they can't win; an outsider trying to fit in; a seemingly hopeless visionary fighting to make their dreams a reality; a person who may feel foreign yet familiar in their own skin within different worlds. Thank you, Mr. O. Yang, for sharing your story; it is truly inspirational.

I think Jimmy’s experience resonates with many, if not all, Asian Americans. For example, I can relate to putting aside my career dreams for a more acceptable choice because I did not want to become poor or homeless. I also know all too well how regardless of whether you’re fresh off the boat, American born or a 2nd/3rd etc generation Asian American-how well you assimilate means nothing because you are still seen as a foreigner. This book was a great read with wonderful insight, it made me laugh and cry.

Assessing the success of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPZs), Moberg evaluates their general welfare contribution, not just that of the stand-alone SEZ. Notably, Moberg employs a political economy point of view rather than a more traditional macroeconomic assessment.Moberg concentrates on institutions and policies from the perspective of the knowledge and incentive problems. The knowledge problem is one of government’s insufficient fundamental knowledge to improve on the market through policy making. Failure to sufficiently solve this problem results in misallocated resources. The incentive problem is of the misalignment between political actors’ incentives and those that promote general welfare. Misaligned incentives permit rent-seeking behavior, often in the guise of welfare promotion, and exploitation of resources by those controlling the levers of regulation, their cronies and those willing and able to pay for rent-seeking advantages.Analysis of SEZ general welfare implications is more complex than I had realized. Moberg comes to the perverse yet straightforward observation that policy makers can use SEZs to advance exactly the opposite economic outcomes from what the SEZ itself purports to resolve. Since SEZ costs inflicted on the non-SEZ community are opaque, rent-seeking policy makers can leverage non-SEZ lack of awareness to forestall opposition.The knowledge problem is best resolved through private decision-making with respect to locations and constituents. The incentive problem resolution comprises limited corruption (selfish officials self-interested in beneficial policies), democracy (officials accountable for the economic outcomes of their policies) and private zones (with robust rule of law, private actors act in their self-interest, which is that of society).SEZs can benefit general welfare by:· Fostering backward linkages: SEZ constituents can purchase inputs and services from domestic non-SEZ agents. However, there appears little evidence for such development. In fact, Moberg says, “the great paradox of SEZs: Countries use them to promote sectors in which they do not have a comparative advantage, such as manufacturing or high technology, rather than agriculture. As a result, SEZ investors are unlikely to find domestically produced inputs for their production. Meanwhile, sectors such as agriculture, where backward linkages can more easily be formed, are the least popular sectors to expand.”· Public policy test beds: SEZ’s are good “tools to identify the best policies and spread them more widely through the country”. I was particularly intrigued by her observation that SEZs can be used as “Petri dishes for economic policies, places where it [a benevolent government] can observe policies’ effects before introducing them in the country as a whole.” In the case study of China, Moberg illustrates the use of test beds as Petri dishes. Moberg’s makes the point that China’s application of the test-bed Petri dish theory relies on a unified government.· SEZs as showcases: The showcase argument is that a government can use SEZs to demonstrate policy effects to the general public, particularly the results of the policies it wants to implement more broadly. This is a useful way to advance regulatory liberalization.“A pervasive and fundamental problem in economic development is that governing elites often do not have an incentive to promote economic progress. Market-distorting and anticompetitive policies benefit government officials, who can offer privileges to business and demand favors in return.” At their best, SEZs overcome the incentives of powerful elites otherwise against reforms that would limit or end their rent-seeking opportunities by providing them with higher payoffs from economic liberalization. Liberalize a small part of the country such that a favoring minority can pass reforms that may reach a majority agreement. Modest reforms are less threatening to reform-averse officials.Moberg specifies two initial conditions for an SEZ to appear in a hostile political environment: political decentralization (local policy-makers can do something that central ones won’t or can’t) and fiscal decentralization (local elites have an incentive to pursue reform). Otherwise, governments can maximize rents by using SEZs to appease those pushing for reform and avoiding broad economic liberalization.The case studies of India, China and the Dominican Republic provide interesting perspectives on and insights from the theory. India is the case of SEZ failure. My take-away is that endemic corruption can be an insurmountable barrier. China is the SEZ success story. Local decentralization from central authority and official promotions and demotions based on economic success or failure led to Chinese local leaders “engaging in something of a tournament of economic performance with their SEZs.” Both the knowledge and the incentive problems were sufficiently ameliorated such that political and fiscal (specific tax revenue sharing – a municipal property right) decentralization could spawn more and larger SEZs. The larger SEZs, such as the Shenzen municipality, afford breadth and diversity making rent-seeking more difficult and affording greater general welfare. Isolated areas of reform turned into an avalanche of liberalization. Lastly, the Dominican Republic is an interesting case of limited success.
