For several years after spending extended time living abroad in China, I've had adult acne on my cheeks. I never had acne going through puberty and then after my time abroad I just couldn't get rid of my blemishes. I've tried a lot of products (ProActive, Clinque, Nuetregena) and none of them helped me out.Then, I started reading Dr. Fine's book. I got interested in her work after trying her IAMFINE clay face mask, and was floored. It was the only skin product that actually seemed to help my skin. But the game changer happened after this book. By understanding how the environment around me could be impacting how I feel and even the products that I was using to help me refine my skin could be potentially harming them because of the toxins in them was so insightful. I switched to products that aligned with the Beauty Code (esp from the advice found in chapter 9! Pure Products for Beauty) and after about 3 weeks of this protocol, my skin is back to where it was seven years ago! I'm in my mid twenties, and to have healthier skin than I've ever had before is amazing.This book though, isn't just about skin (that was just my initial journey with this book). Dr. Fine takes an incredible, holistic view of beauty. She weaves in the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of health into an easy to digest book. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to better themselves through healthy life choices, and to just learn more about what your body needs in an increasingly toxic and chaotic world.
Dr. Fine has written an easy to read and very accessible book on how to take care of your skin from the inside out. She works from 6 different angles on healthy skin care. As an integrative medicine medical provider, I am constantly telling my patients that they must pay attention to their skin from the inside out and stop smearing it with toxic chemicals for the sake of "beauty". It is refreshing to have such a great resource to be able to give them now on how to care for the largest organ of detoxification we have...the skin. Thank you Dr. Fine!
Dr. Anne Marie Fine's book titled, Cracking the Beauty Code, is a thorough examination of how the foods we eat and the personal care products we use, significantly affect our well-being. This treatise on health explores the deleterious effects of consumer products that people use on a daily basis. This may be shampoo, make-up, sunscreen, perfume, and other staples that can materially damage your skin and health. I liked how Dr. Fine included a discussion of epigenetics, which is a relatively new field exploring how our environment, diet, choices (things we can control) can turn on and off our genes. In other words, eating nutrient dense food and avoiding the myriad of environmental toxins abounding in our personal care products, can influence the activation of our genes. This is empowering news that can help "stack the deck" in our favor by making us less susceptible to diabetes, cancer, and other conditions. Dr. Fine also espouses the benefits of juicing and how this is an efficient way to assimilate a lot of antioxidants. The author frequently appears to be addressing people who will say they don't have time to eat multiple servings of fruit or vegetables per day. Her book even outlines various programs to apply this information. For example, she preemptively recognizes the reluctance many will have in making an abrupt lifestyle change due to inherent psychological motivations and the gravitational pull of homeostasis. Subsequently, she has delineated "the minimalist" which is appealing because it shows you some quick, easy things any individual can implement. In addition, if you like your information to be credible and empirically validated, then you will appreciate this book. Since the author is a physician, international speaker and scientist, she cites her sources and alludes to various scholarly publications. This is refreshing as there are numerous so-called "experts" who lack the academic degrees, peer review, and professional experience to speak authoritatively on their subject. I appreciated how this provided the reader with a plethora of references that can lead the reader to more analysis, if desired, Despite the author's academic pedigree and research background, Cracking the Beauty Code is easy to understand and contains very pragmatic ways to improve your health.
Dr Fine's book (and frankly Dr Fine!) is full of real beauty tips for a real woman who has a dozen other things on her plate and in her life to think about. Her insider secrets aren't crazy or time consuming. They are however not the usual! She does have the secret sauce that makes her believable. Look at her! It clearly works. I happen to know from an interview how old she is and how much younger she looks. Your chronological skin does not have to match your biological skin's age! I'll have what she's having!
After being so happy with Dr. Fine's products I read her book to learn more. I have always been interested in skin health. I had acne as a teenager and then it appeared at 40. I am in my mid-sixties now and firgured out "you are what you eat." She explains why we are and gives details on what to avoid. There are chemicals all around us in our daily lives. The products we use for cleansing our hair and body and the modified foods we eat all contribute to poor health which shows up on our skin and plays havoc with the body. I have recommended her book to my friends who confide in me with their aging issues. They too have found it helpful. I just wish I had this book 40 years ago. Thank you Dr Fine.
I am one of the fortunate ones to have Dr. Fine as a physician for many years, and this book is an stellar example of her incredible work. She has brought me to the light with the very information contained in her book. I have become informed about healthy eating, toxins/detoxing, skin care, how to practice mind/body work to talk to my cells and steer myself in a positive direction, and so much more. My friends who are my age (77) constantly remark about my vitality. This book is a bible offering us the word on what it takes to remain healthy and vibrant. I also use her skin care products, which are amazing! A special bonus here in reading this book...it is exciting to read, and I can't wait to get to the next page!
