Scott Burton (1939-1989) was an American artist best known for his large-scale furniture sculptures and public art. Richard "Dick" James is a Crader Professor of Counseling at the University of Memphis. He is a licensed psychologist and licensed professional counselor. He also is a Nationally Certified School Counselor. This is a 600-page book. It is very intense. I grow up with abuse and this book talks in detail about rape, abuse, domestic abuse, loss, mega-crises, and etc... I don' recommend this book unless you have been on the healing the road for your life. I had many triggers from this book. The plus side is that the book also goes into detail about healing and treatment for such things. Which was huge for me. Good luck.

I rented this book for my Crisis and Trauma class. I have decided I am going to purchase it instead because the content is so real and helpful. There are not many times when I find a textbook to be helpful after the class, but I believe this one will be.

Crisis Intervention Strategies--here's a topic counselors need to be as current on as possible. Experience tells me that an 8th edition won't cut it--and this textbook is no exception. One of the co-authors, Burl E. Gilliland, died in 2004. He was an accomplished man, and I'm sure his work on the textbook was excellent, but that was thirteen years ago. And enough of his material remains in this text that his name is still on the cover. Likewise, I'm sure Richard K. James is also a fine person, but neither of them can write dialogue that resembles a conversation in the 21st century.Here's a taste:Officer Davis: (in a calm but authoritative voice) All right, let's everybody cool off! First off, you can't have her arrested for a status offense. It's clear home isn't working real well, so Laura, let's you and me go to my office and talk about what's going on and what you think needs to happen....Laura: Hey! You're kinda different. Most cops push people around. OK.It's like a Breakfast Club after-school special. There are clumsy attempts to acknowledge that the book was written by old white men, but the acknowledgement doesn't curtail the biases evident throughout. Sometimes I feel as if the authors were trying their "scared straight" tactics out on me. Three full pages (six columns) of description of the school of the future, complete with Kevlar vests and prison-like lockdowns. This is AFTER long chapters about rape, child abuse, bereavement, etc. There is nothing inspiring or uplifting about it. And the next chapter is on "Violent Behavior in Institutions"!Any student with any sense of self-preservation at all is going to skim the dramatic scenario sections rapidly because there is SO MUCH to get through! Very few graphics relieve the long blocks of text. There are two good crisis assessment forms but, chances are, wherever we work will have their own forms they prefer.How about some guidance on how to dig through all the concealed and open carry regulations that are different in each state? That might have some bearing on crisis intervention. How about including some research telling about trends in cyberbullying and resultant suicides and what has been done in response? The crises helpers face will be very different in the 21st century. There is a lot of talk in the book about the Memphis CIT program, still in operation, but nothing about innovations and changes there, either. If this textbook is used in a program for masters students deciding on the focus of their practice in any helping profession, I doubt it will win any over to crisis intervention work.Is it actual fraud? No. There are many theories and practices described that will be on different licensing exams. But attention publishers: any new textbook on crisis counseling that tightens up the prose, adds some graphics, and uses cutting-edge references, will blow this tired old book out of the water and make some serious money.

Great source of information and is a captivating, easy read.

I bought this as a required text for a Crisis and trauma class. It was useful for learning the theory behind crisis counseling, however it's so wordy I don't feel it's practical to use day to day, and I probably won't hang on to it.

The book provides an abundance of relevant information related crisis/trauma assessment & intervention, and is a comprehensive guide for service providers. However, it does not examine Type II Trauma in nearly as much detail.

I rented this item and it came brand new. The price was substantially low since it was rented bit that was even better. They provided a return label for free upon sending it back. Please keep your box though.

I liked this book! It was well written, easy to read, and on point with the information needed for the study of crisis interventions. It was well worth the money and will be a valuable addition to my reference collection.

David Potter did a fabulous job summarizing of the book Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter, M.D.. This book is one that will absolutely amaze you when you start reading it. I found myself not wanting to put it down because it's so intriguing. Dr. Perlmutter has such a wonderful sense of humor, and David Potter let that shine through. I'm Italian, we are genetically programmed ;) to love pasta & bread...this book broke the cycle for me. After reading it, I very, VERY seldom want anything containing grain. I recommend both the summary and full version to just about everyone I talk to about my weight loss, just an added bonus I forgot to mention. This book is for all ages, it pertains to our little ones all the way through old age. His studies in the area of dementia & how it relates to grain is fabulous. GET THE BOOK, and get back on track the way you were meant to live.

I got this condensed version of the book because I didn't want to get bogged down in technical and scientific mumbo jumbo. I wanted to get right to the point with enough reasons to convince me this was a valuable and healthier way to eat. This condenses the info just right and also includes several very interesting and varied types of recipes.I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to change their health for the better.

If you are interested in how the body and brain reacts to all of the foods you intake you will find this book very helpful in explaining that. After reading this book it makes me think about what I'm eating and what is it in it before I actually eat it. Another great thing about this book is it gives you some healthy and tasty recipes to try for yourself.

You may still want to read Dr. Perlmutter's book but this book will give you a quick summary so you can get started eating better. There are some recipes in it so you can get started as well but you will still want to get more and may want to get Dr. Perlmutter's Grain Brain cookbook.

A great collection of old deer hunting photos which will appeal to all Whitetail hunting enthusiasts. A large portion of the photos included are from New York, Maine, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. The author explains that this was simply a function of a greater abundance of available vintage photos from those areas. In any case, the scenes depicted could as well have taken place anywhere Whitetails are pursued. The bulk of the photos are dated from 1880 to 1950. This is not a collection of the great record book bucks but there are a great many bucks pictured here far larger than most of us will ever see.

A must have book for every deer hunter. A treasure trove of old deer hunting photos of the late 1800's early 1900's combined with an informative narrative. By nature of the old photos, this book is in black an white, not color. It is printed on high quality paper, sadly printed in China. I would have gladly paid more for a USA printed book, particularly given the nature of the book. Having said that, it is currently very good value for the money.

I purchased this for my husband's birthday and he absolutely loved it. He was surprised to see there were so many pictures in it, which he also loved. He had saw this in a magazine somewhere and thought it would be nice to have. I ignored him and surprised him for his birthday and it turned out to be a great gift!

My husband, who is country through-and-through, and has the soul of an older person, really likes this book. He’s always browsing through the pages. When he had to care for his dad the other night, he took the book with him. His dad enjoyed it, too!

I saw an article/preview of this book in GON magazine and thought it would be really cool to look through....boy is that an understatement!A must have for all who enjoy hunting and have an affinity for our nation's young but unique history. I simply love this book. Buy it!

Great book for the coffee table and gives a thorough and at time fact filled story on the history of deer hunting. This would make a great gift for any hunter. It contains a great collection of photos and captions.

I have this in my "man cave" in the basement. I get a lot of comments/compliments on it. People pick it up and read it all the time.
