Please everyone on my team read this as it makes all our lives easier when we deal with your code

I have so many books and many books on JavaScript. This so far seems to be my favourite of the bunch. I have the paperback book (Which the binding came unglued almost immediately - only con on this book I have against it) and I have the eBook. I use the eBook the most sitting on my desktop next to my laptop and external keyboard/mouse and find I can learn from it easily. I've already learned so much about ES6+ (ECMAScript) not starting with only Vanilla and moving forward but intertwining the newer changes to the language with the old and showing along the way (whether on purpose or not) how to refactor the code so it is more concise using the new shortcuts implement into JavaScript over the last few years. And it builds on topics, gives test questions to rattle your mind a bit and you can tell it was written by someone with Industry inside experience. And one interesting thing I learned from it which the books pounds into you is you need to manage the fine line between shorter/less/cleaner code and efficiency. Sometimes if performance is in question slopppy and longer written out code might suit your needs better. It's a 5 star book. I've been waiting many months for this books to come out and it was worth the wait.

If you are looking to learn JavaScript, this book is essential and well written. I enjoyed it very much as it provides good concepts and relates them to things anyone can understand. Thanks!

Eloquent JavaScript is unlike so many of the educational materials out there. It is complete and thorough in a sense that few books or websites are. For being a single book that doesn't read like a dense textbook, it spans a surprising amount of material, including asynchronous programming, node, and data immutability. Some of these concepts have their own chapters, but many of these concepts are introduced within the context of a problem that they help solve rather than being formally discussed.I've removed one star for a reason that will be an issue for many people. This book is *hard* as an intro text. It very quickly goes from introducing basic concepts and syntax into higher order/first class functions then into asynchronous programming. It ramps up very quickly, and in order to really understand the content, you will likely find yourself revisiting sections several times. There will be times where new syntax is simply introduced without explanation until later in the chapter. In my read through there were times that I needed to pull up documentation or head over to StackOverflow in order to figure out what the hell just happened.Personally I see this as a weakness *and* a strength. The book is engaging and leads you along a very carefully planned path, but it also requires you to think for yourself and to extend your research beyond the book itself. As he builds up the code example that the chapter is based around, you will find yourself lost at times. This is a good thing. Just because something is hard doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile. Being forced to parse more difficult code rather than just learning each bit of the language in isolation is, imo, a better route to understanding as it gives context.If you want something that is quick and easy to work through, or that is laser focused on each feature and can be used as a reference, I would recommend a different book. This book is a journey and can be a tough climb at times but it is worth it.

I read the previous edition of this book, but my comments concern features of the book that seem to hold true of the latest edition. I am jealous of the inline art and code styling, though. Those look like they went from good to even better.This book is well-suited to an instructional environment where JavaScript is being used as an introductory language to programming. The material is just dense enough to provide a challenge to students without being alienating to new programmers. The author has a nice habit of mixing the basics with some of the behind-the-scenes implementation details. Even as a professional JavaScript engineer, there were many moments in the book that taught me something new.If you are an independent 'learn to code and change careers' sort of reader, I would actually steer you away from this book. I would steer you away from any book. Focus on online resources that force you in front of a terminal window or force you to do coding exercises online (Code Wars, Leetcode, Code Fights, Code Abbey, etc.). Without an instructor forcing you to type out all of the examples and exercises, this book could become a tool for procrastination.

This book is basically made up of two halves.The first half of the book follows Silver Surfer as he encounters Thanos for the first time, and the Surfer's mission to stop Thanos' own quest of wiping out half the universe's population (Yep - it's actually less stupid than it sounds though). It's not terrible, but it's nothing amazing either. It feels very cheesy at times. It's a three star story.The second half of the book, Thanos Quest, is the reason to buy the book. Thanos goes across the universe, acquiring the 6 infinity gems. This was a very fun read, and although I knew nothing about Thanos prior to reading this book, this book has caused him to become my 2nd favorite Marvel Villain. He is very devious in how he deals with each of the 6 characters who possess the infinity gems, and is a lot like Lucifer from the Sandman universe, if you've ever read that series. A five star story.OK Silver Surfer story, combined with the excellent Thanos Quest story, averages to 4 stars.

I had already read the Thanos Quest comics that lead towards the Infinity Guantlet, but I wanted to catch up on the Silver Surfer comics that lead to Thanos Quest. This volume was worth buying even though I already owned the last two comics in this collection. I loved seeing how Surfer dealt with the return of Thanos and how he tries to stop him. Drax the Destroyer has a decent, funny issue in this collection, along with The Impossible Man, some character I was unfamiliar with. If you love Jim Starlin and the cosmic comics of Marvel, check this out.

This is a great Silver Surfer storyline that I believe prepare the Silver Surfer for the crossover event "The Infinity Gauntlet". This story is about the Silver Surfer confronts the resurrecting Thanos who's seeking the Infinity Gauntlet to control time, space & reality. Oh and Thanos also fell in love with Death. And of course, the Silver Surfer have his run in with the Impossible Man & Drax the Destroyer as he attempts to stop Thanos. It also features cameo appearances from She-Hulk, Captain America & the Human Torch (of the Fantastic Four). It also includes the two-part miniseries "Thanos Quest" which features Thanos seeking out the Infinity Gauntlet & the Infinity Gems that led to the crossover story "The Infinity Gauntlet" and bonus pages from "Logan's Run #6" which features Thanos & Drax the Destroyer.This is a great comic book storyline that soars the 90s. I have always love the Silver Surfer and I was disappointed that Marvel Studios hadn't done a "Silver Surfer" yet. But I'm enjoying this trade paperback story of "Rebirth of Thanos".

If you are going to read or are interested in reading the Infinity gauntlet, this must be read. I didn't even know it existed until I picked up the Infinity gauntlet and felt like many pieces were missing, one search on Amazon led me to this and it was an incredibly fun and informative read.

This was a very entertaining comic that depicts Thanos' quest to gain all six soul or infinity gems. It is fast paced and easy to understand without too much backstory. The art and fight scenes are beautiful. It shows how clever Thanos is and how far he will go to win Death's affection. Silver Surfer is also a prominent character throughout most of the book except for the last third or so. Overall, highly recommended to all Marvel fans especially those that love Thanos.

This story arch starts by following Silver Surfer, and then follows Thanos for the majority of the book. It's a fun, mind-bending story about Thanos' quest for the Infinity Stones. It's fun to lean about each stone's powers and to see Thanos cheat and trick his way to each one. I'm now really intrigued to see how the next Avengers film will be set up and if they will explore the origins and powers of each stone as much as this story did.

Jim Starlin is without a doubt the master of the cosmic epic. Case in point is one of my all-time favorite comic books, Marvel Two-In-One Annual #2, starring The Thing and Spider-Man. It features the conclusion of a story began in Avengers Annual #9 (also by Starlin). The Avengers have been captured by the evil Thanos (a super powerful demi-god), who plans to blow up our sun as a tribute to Death. In short order, Spider-Man and the Thing free the Avengers and a huge battle ensues between the heroes and Thanos and his many minions. In the midst of the chaos, Spider-Man manages to revive Adam Warlock (who was slain by Thanos in Avengers Annual #9). Warlock then takes his revenge on Thanos by turning him to stone. End of Thanos? Not exactly.Jump ahead a few years and Jim Starlin is penning the adventures of the Silver Surfer. He decides to bring back one of his greatest creations - Thanos! (Wise decision). This trade paperback features the complete story of the "Rebirth of Thanos", from Silver Surfer #34-38 and the excellent two-issue miniseries "Thanos Quest". As an added bonus it also includes a rare Thanos short story from the comic "Logan's Run #6" (huh???).Anyway, this is an excellent book with stellar writing by Starlin and crisp, dynamic art from Ron Lim. The gist of the story is that Death returns Thanos to the land of the living so that he can balance the scales of life and death by killing half the the sentient beings (people, animals, etc.) in the universe. The Silver Surfer learns of Thanos' plot and tries to stop him. The two battle and Thanos tricks the Surfer into thinking that he's killed him. This buys Thanos the time he needs to collect the Infinity Gems (formerly called the Soul Gems). Once he has all of the Infinity Gems in his possession, Thanos gains the unlimited power of a God. This is all a prelude to the massive Marvel crossover, "The Infinity Gauntlet". (Also collected in trade paperback). But that's a review for another day.To sum up, if you like awesomeness, you'll like this. It's a great story with great art from the days when Marvel comics weren't so concerned with the "real" world, and were still fun to read.

One of the best biographers I have come across. The author tells the blow by blow of Elizabeth's life with a minimum of analysis and judgement. Most biographers put too much of themselves into the book. I often feel herded this way and that as the author overlays the life with their idea of their subject. In the case of this book, Somerset does a splendid job in telling what was and leaving the judgment to me. I even wish she had said more in assessing Elizabeth's legacy. There was very little in that way. But I can't fault her for writing the book she wanted to write. Overall it's really a good biography, although it was so dense it took me quite a while to finish it - almost a week! A really fine book.

If all that you know of Elizabeth I is what you know from Cate Blanchett's two movies, then you know nothing. Even if you learned that Sir Francis Walsingham was her advisor and Sir Walter Raleigh was her friend. In high school I got an "A" in world history, and in college I earned a minor degree in history. So, literally, I can convey SOMETHING about the Virgin Queen. Like me, she had red hair, and Sir Francis Drake was her champion. And before reading ELIZABETH I, I could have told you that Elizabeth was human and that she was imperfect and she made many mistakes.Still I did not know HER. So, like movie watchers, I knew nothing.For me, Anne Somerset's supreme achievement was to teach me the SPECIFICS of the first Queen Elizabeth's humanness. She brought this lofty person down to earth. As I read Elizabeth's story, her image as a great person of history disintegrated and she became just a person. But she remains close to heart.Please do not misunderstand. This lengthy, though easy-to-read biography is not a psychological treatise. Actually it reads pretty much like fiction. Bloody Mary serves as a villainess. Mary Queen of Scots provides intrigue. Sir Francis Drake leads us to adventure. The Spanish Armada injects suspense. The impulsive arrogance of Lord Exeter makes us shake our heads with admonition. And Elizabeth herself emulates Shakespeare by exiting the material plane with pathos.God save the Queen!Extras: Family tree showing descendants of Henry VII (Elizabeth's grandfather), sixteen photographic plates of period drawings and portraits, hundreds of footnotes, hundreds of bibliographic entries, index with detailed subtopics. Maps would have been helpful, but there were none.

For most of this book, I was wondering what it was about Elizabeth I that made her so famous through the centuries. The legend of Gloriana and her Golden Age were nowhere to be seen in the detailed descriptions of marriage negotiations, her hesitant and lukewarm foreign assistance, or her being duped by the French king. Where were the sweeping reforms and brilliant handling of foreign and domestic affairs that would surely characterize the reign of such a remarkable woman?It wasn’t until the last six pages of the book, when Somerset assesses Elizabeth’s reign, that her true achievements finally emerge. Her success was not in grand events, but in the stability and prosperity she brought to her kingdom. Elizabeth kept England out of costly foreign entanglements. She maintained the overall peace at a time when other monarchs faced rebellion and civil war. She restored national confidence and international prestige. She established a national church that would have broad appeal. She upheld the interests of the crown without encroaching on the interests of her subjects.Somerset offers a detailed and informative portrait of Elizabeth that at times defends decisions and rationales while at others describes her in unflattering terms. When Elizabeth expressed anger, she “shrieked” and “screamed,” words which undermine any reasonable basis for her opinion. Fortunately, these instances are rare and readers are more often treated to descriptions of the various conundrums Elizabeth faced: her personal feelings toward marriage and the pressure to marry; the problems arising no matter who the lucky man was, English or foreign; the pressure to name a successor; how to deal with Mary Stuart; powerful continental enemies who could overwhelm England if provoked, the rise of Puritanism. And these were after her accession. Prior to that, Elizabeth walked a tightrope for survival under both her siblings, her wits and courage all that kept her alive.Elizabeth was blessed with extraordinary luck throughout her reign, but Somerset points out that she took advantage of that luck. Her councilors were instrumental to the running of the kingdom, but she was the one who appointed them. Elizabeth’s military strategies were often sound; the problem was that her generals failed to follow them.Elizabeth I comes across as a woman who ruled on her own terms, and quite competently, at a time when women were not seen as capable of effective leadership. If the achievements of her reign were more quiet than dramatic, they are no less remarkable.

Four stars hardly seems fair given the amount of research that must have gone into this book, but the detail can be overwhelming. It is well organized and well written, but as another reviewer opined, this is not a light read. I would suggest this book for dedicated fans of Elizabeth and her era. For one, such as myself, with only a passing curiosity for her and her times, this may have been too much.

This book has a useful format, but it is riddled with typos and inconsistency between the instructions and the answers given. The errors are so many that it interferes with a beginner's ability to learn. I know all books have a few wrong answers in the back, but this numbers in the 10-20 per chapter range, sometimes more. I hope they reedit it, because I did like the design. If they do, they should expand the conversions section to include more household and apothecary problems. The CD is just a condensed version of the book, no new problems to work on.

This book was on my "required" list, even though we never use it in class. I used it a couple of times to look up formulas for drips/min but other than that I have not used it. I tried to do some practice problems out of it but the method that they use is not the same as the one we use in class and it has been more confusing than helpful. If you need extra practice and are willing to dig through this then try to find a cheap one. Otherwise I would look for a better teaching book.

I began using this book prior to my first semester of nursing school. I was worried about drug calculations as it had been many years since I took a math class. This book was so helpful in refreshing me on basic math all the way through to complicated drug calculations. The cd that comes with the book is also great because it has additional practice questions. I would recommend this to any nursing student for help with drug calc as it is very "user friendly."

Good book. Kinda basic but does the trick. Apparently there are some misprints in here so be careful. Had a great teacher that pointed them out before we got confused. If you buy it I wonder if your professor will catch it.

I ordered this book as a birthday gift for a friend who is a nursing student. Much to my surprise, ALL if the pages are stuck together, and cannot be unstuck, which renders this book useless. If the seller has a replacement, I would like it replaced ASAP, as my friend needs it for her classes. I have submitted a ticket to Amazon, but have not heard back about a replacement.

I ordered these books for college at a very reasonable price. As all of my purchases from Amazon.com, I received them in a very timely manner of about three days. The books were in excellent condition. I recommend everyone order their college books through Amazon as I am very satisfied.

I bought this book through Elsevier to study for NCLEX-RN. 2 days and so far i found 2 typos and errors.IV Calculation section - I found entries in the equations which was not mention in the problem in the first place. So you wonder, where did that came from....I'm sure there are better Drug Calculation book with concise and correct information. This book is NOT!!!

This was a brand new book. I received it in a reasonable time but this book was a mess. The corners were all bent, there were pages crinkled, and about 20 pages in the back were torn halfway up off the binding. I did return it and I got a new one very fast without any charge. I was very pleased with the whole return process, and customer service couldn't have been nicer.

As a professor I have become deeply cynical of new editions -- I see shameless textbook producers make trivial changes every 18 months to kill off competition from used books. Fortunately this is not a text and the changes are real improvements from the previous edition.If you are interested in globalization or comparative cultures you will want to buy and read this book even if you have already devoured the second edition. The most obvious changes: the expanded chapter (2) on studying cultural differences, the new proposed cultural dimension of indulgence (8), and the new chapter on evolution of cultures (12) are more than worth the time and effort of acquiring the new book.This new edition resolves a dilemma for me: I was always torn between recommending Cultures and Consequences or Cultures and Organizations as an intro to Hofstede's ideas for someone who wanted a deep understanding of the research. I would now recommend that everyone, academic, business person, or curious reader, start with the third edition of Cultures and Organizations.

If you travel overseas or work with organizations outside the U.S., I recommend that you read this book. The concept that culture forms the software of the mind intrigues me. In my travels I find that people in other countries do not view many things in the same way that I do. This book provides a framework for analyzing different viewpoints through consideration of the cultures from which they grow. For example, the author considers the cultural values of individualism versus collectivism. He argues that individualism may be almost completely explained by the wealth of a society - the wealthier the society the more individualism one finds expressed. Collectivism tends to dominate as a cultural value where wealth is not pervasive; consequently, in much of the world, collectivism prevails as a cultural value over individualism.The book reviews values from Western, Asian, and global perspectives. While many values overlap, the author delves into the areas where cultural values differ within each of these perspectives. This, too, adds value to the book.Overall, I think that the book encourages one to consider the cultural lenses through which one views the world. It provides an analytical framework to undertake this process. The author recognizes that one cannot escape one's own culture when looking at others (the software of the mind concept). I had the impression that he prefers cultural responses more in keeping with his Dutch background.The book encouraged me to consider the positive and negative aspects of different cultural features. The author would argue that the act of viewing a culture positively or negatively requires acceptance of a cultural viewpoint. I agree, but I think that this is part of the book's value; it encourages one to consider one's own mental landscape. I did not agree with all of the author's conclusions and believe that there are influences that lie outside the book's purview that affect people's behavior. Nevertheless, if you want to look at the software in your own mind, this is a good place to start.

Not only does the book teach me how to isolate and be conscious of cultural sensitivities, it, more importantly reveals how unconscious, most people (we interact with) are on this topic. Cultural dimensions are examined and topics such as the "Power Distance", "Authority", "Time" "Non-Verbal communication", "Uncertainty avoidance", "Collectivism versus individualism", and "Femininity versus masculinity" are studied and explained in deeper depth.I find that reading this book together with another book titled "International Business Communication" by Dr. David A. Victor would greatly enhance your understanding of the theories and concepts expounded by Dr. Hofstede. Dr. Victor invented a model (LESCANT) that simplifies the understanding of "Software of the Mind". "LESCANT is an acronym that represents seven areas in which cultural issues arise when dealing with international business communication. The acronym stands for Language, Environment, Social Organization, Context, Authority, Non-Verbal, and Time. Dr. David A. Victor, who is a professor of management and the Director of International Business Programs at Eastern Michigan University, created the model." Having worked internationally as a marketing researcher for more than two decades, I can say that the book basically reflects my own observations but feel the authors over-interpret their data. Methodologically, it does not strike me as rigorous (e.g., confusion of factor and cluster analysis, use of stepwise regression, how scale usage patterns are handled). The authors also let their political views intrude a bit too much in my opinion, which draws into question their interpretation of their data in some parts of the book. All that said, if you work internationally it's probably a must read, given its influence, and the book is a strong reminder that culture does matter in the business world.

Aaron Rezny has spent more than 20 years shooting food and tabletop photography. Rezny, the son of Polish immigrants, began his photographic career at an early age and eventually established his own studio in 1979. His photography has been featured in major marketing campaigns for Nestlé, Duncan Hines, Kellogg's, Russell Stover, Nabisco, and Applebee's among other brands. His work has also appeared in New York Magazine, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, and The Wall Street Journal. A celebration of Jewish food, it accurately calls itself. It has a few recipes, but it is mostly full of delightful stories, photographs, and jokes. For me, someone who grew up in a Jewish family in the Lower East Side in Manhattan, it was a trip to my childhood.

The designers of the book were concerned only with design resulting in many pages and titles that are illegible as the ink is almost the color of the paper. assanine design. they created a book not to be read but placed on the cocktail table for looks.

What can I say? If you've: grown up eating any of these foods; lived any length of time in NYC or other places with a large Eastern-European Jewish (Ashkenazi) population; or are just interested in this type of cuisine, then this is a book for you!

I gave the book to my cousin in Myrtle Beach. She hasn't stopped raving about it. She is from Brooklyn and is a fabulous cook. The recipes are just like our families made.The pictures are marvelous. She is printing a copy of the Charlotte Russe to hang in her kitchen. She sent a copy to her sister in Mass. and I sent another to my friend on Roosevelt Island. The comments are universally more than positive. The only complaint is about the print. It is hard to make out in some places.I have never given a gift with such happy results.

Absolutely unique and interesting. It delves into the culture and the ethnic eating habits so tastefully.The jokes were a surprise bonus.

Beautiful photos, wonderful anecdotes, fantastic old Bubbie recipes.. It would be a great gift, but I am keeping it for myself. I live in Brooklyn, and some of those places mentioned are still open for shopping heaven!

Brings back, so many memories, and does, make you yearn, for some of tha,t real old style Jewish food!!!

This is a terrific book and a great gift for anyone who loves food or gets yearnings for some of the featured delicacies you can only find in one place…New York City. It's well designed, written and produced with the photography as sumptuous as the subject matter. Congratulations to the creators!
