I've been a follower of Clive Cussler for many years and have enjoyed many of his books. In Shock wave, something is killing every living creature within certain grids of the Pacific ocean and surrounding seas, which draws Pitt and NUMA into investigating the events and searching for the cause. When Pitt discovers a cruise ship filled with corpses, he checks a nearby island and discovers a group of surviving passengers and their tour guide, Maeve, who becomes Pitt's love interest in the story.I always enjoy the first story in a Cussler book, in this case, the beginnings of a diamond dynasty almost two centuries earlier. Arthur Dorsett, the current day descendant, is also Maeve's father, whom she ran away from at a younger age. Mr. Dorsett has recently kidnapped Maeve's twin boys and blackmailed her to infiltrate the government and steal secrets related to the diamond industry. Pitt promises Maeve that he will rescue her two boys from Dorsett"s heavily fortified island. Dorsett is so rich that money solves all his problems. It is humorous to see how many pockets in the world hold payola from this man, and thus, allow him to run rampant and get whatever he wants while circumnavigating laws, policies, et al.Mr. Dorsett's and his other two daughters are within weeks of crushing the diamond industry. Their new technology makes it easy to mine the raw diamonds from his four island mines, which circle the Pacific, and produce enough raw stones to crash the market and make diamonds worthless. They are also aware of a by-product of their new technology; harnessing it to achieve their goals, and then covering up the destructive evidence. Once Pitt and company learn about the byproduct, they set out to destroy a dynasty and save the world. But at what cost?I felt certain parts were bogged down with excessive technical information that I had absolutely no interest in learning. However, Shock Wave is a good story and worth the read.

Every time I read another Clive Cussler novel I am astonished that it seems to be better than the Cussler novels I have read before. Today I was in a restaurant at lunch biting my fingernails as I read about Dirk and Al fighting their way out of a tough situation at the Arthur Dorsett compound. I don't know how all readers of this book haven't all given it a five star. It's that good. Too much ground is covered to give much of a synopsis, but the general bullet point is that Arthur Dorsett is one of the world's richest men, having inherited the world's largest company that mines and sells diamonds, crystal and shaded. He is a recluse, but is a greedy butcher that will kill anyone or anything that threatens his ability to increase his profits. His latest mining procedure causes an audible sound that travels for thousands of miles from his island mines and kills marine life, animals and humans it comes in contact with . . . and NUMA must do what it can to stop him.

It has been some time since I've read a Dirk Pitts book. This one started out well, groundwork was laid, characters and storyline were developed. Somewhere along the way, however, my interest began to lag, and by the end I'd been skimming for awhile. Pitt used at least three of his nine lives by the climax and the ending was quite melancholy. It will be awhile before I read another Dirk Pitt novel.... at least until I forget why I quit them again.

I have read most of Cussler's books and have not been disappointed with any of them, in fact I use Clive Cussler to judge the writing of any other author in the same type of books. That includes all five different series he writes or co-authors. His style and creativity is bested by no other writer, in my evaluation. There are others just as good, but they write other style books and it is not fair to compare humor against action adventure etc, etc. As well as I know him, he still manages to confuse for a while and sometimes even fool me completely for a while. Since his appearance of CC in the Dirk Pit books, nothing can be taken for granite. (no, that is not a spelling error)In short (to late!) I loved it!

There's a class of adventure/thriller novels where the bad guy sniper never misses a shot 'til Our Hero bends over to tie his shoe and the bullet zings past where Our Hero's head was a moment before. After a Cussler novel or two a while back, l consigned him to this category. I'm only a few pages into Shock Wave and already rolling my eyes. A clipper captain in the South Pacific who misses the signs of an approaching typhoon until it wrecks his ship as it miraculously travels from east to west is the start of what l have to look forward to. Where are Sandford and Connelly when l need them?

Clive Cussler has a way of catching your attention within the first few pages. Then it is difficult to put the book down. I have been reading his novels for over 25 years (est.?) and love Dirk Pitt. His movies are great, but beware because after reading the descriptions of Dirk and Al Giardino, the casting agent has not picked stars that look like the characters Cussler describes in his novel. But, I still love them unconditionally. If you haven't read any, start at the beginning to know what I mean and let his adventures take you with him!

The Dirk Pitt series is made up of fun, far fetched action. But this book takes it too far, into the realm of silliness. I've read them in order starting from the beginning. The book before this, "Atlantis Found" was amazing... such a fun read, but Valhalla Rising was pure silliness and several times I almost shelved it for good. Just read the LAST FEW pages... that's all the important stuff you'll need to carry on into the next book. But if you like stuff like engines that never need oil changes because new motor oil teleports to the engine to keep it running... then read this nonsense!

Every now and then I see a book whose cover calls out to me to read it. This book did! Oh I know it is a delightful children's story but this person has an inner child that cries for a good story.This book has a good story. Here a tiny kitten is charged with killing all the mice in the castle or else. The castle's adult cats, although good mousers have been unable to keep the mouse/rat population under control. The mice decide a stragety is required. They meet. The result is a deal with the new kitten. Clever mice, charming kitten, clean castle. A delight to read and to read to children.

I thought the story was charming and the few illustrations adorable. However, I would have preferred many, many more images of the mice, cats, and castle.

I am 7 years old . I really like this book and the story idea. The cat and mice get to live together in peace.Peyton

How a Mouse Saved the Royal Cat by Kurt Zimmerman is such a cute little story and wonderful artwork. Clever, cute, fun, and sure to please kids of all ages. Delightful!

My grandkids loved the story!

It's a cute story and it's quick. A bit of a tongue twister at times though. My son is two, and he won't sleep without the black cat story, he can't say cashew yet but he tries.

This is a fun children's book for anyone that likes cats or mice! I really enjoyed the story and illustrations.

Lovecraft and Dr. Seuss: Match made in R'lyeh!

Why are there not more people buying this book!!! If you let your kids read goosebumps or any of you like lit. on the darker or more macob side of the literary spectrum you will rilly apresheate this. Plus its enjoyable for a much border age spectrum, my 2 year old loves it, my 7 year old, my 12 year old, and myself! The poetic flow is emencly satisfying, its wimsicle, scary, misterious, engaging, not to long, not to short, has beautiful Seussian Ilistrations to ogal as we move from one page to the next, and is so much fun to read aloud.

The story and artwork are fantastic, a great homage to both Lovecraft and Seuss.Unfortunately, the copy I received had several loose pages that were not bound correctly. I had saved the book as a gift and now it's too late to return it, so be sure to check the pages as soon as you get it.

This book does the following nearly perfectly:1. Summarize "The Call of Cthulu" as a story.2. Imitate the drawing style of Dr. Suess.3. Imitate the writing style of Dr. Sues.Since I like both Lovecraft and Dr. Suess, it is very amusing to see both in the same work.

I look forward to sharing this with my children if I have any. I feel the themes associated with Lovecraft's work that may not be appropriate for young readers (you know the ones) are handled effectively here. In terms of presentation: the text is a concise retelling of the CoC story, and the artwork is exceptionally faithful to the Seuss style of children's books. I would recommend for parents, young readers and fans of the Mythos.

A well written story that really captures the spirit of Seuss. Well illustrated and a fun read. A bit dark in parts (No... really?) but certainly PG-13 with its ideas. Give it to a kid who is "too old for this kind of book" and see what they say after the part with the cultists....

Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations by Alex & Brett Harris is a book for teenagers written by two teenagers.The message in this book is to rebel against society's low expectations for people in their teenage years. The way to do this is to "do hard things". Those hard things come from five categories, which include things that are outside of your comfort zone, things that go beyond what is expected or required, things that are too big to accomplish alone, things that don't earn an immediate pay off and things that challenge the cultural norm.This is meant to be a book that challenges the teen's psyche and inspires the reader to do things in the name of God to improve their world. Many people fail to push themselves and therefore fail to accomplish much of anything in their lives. By nipping this in the bud during the teenage years, a person could live a much more lively life.While this book is written for teenagers, I think just about anyone could glean some inspiration and motivation from it. The only two issues I have is that Catholics may find some offense in this book especially with how monks are depicted or imagined by the authors and the proselytizing without regard to one's personal safety.Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah in exchange for my review. I'm 37 years old and just finished this book. It's one of many that I have started over the last 16 months, but the only one I have finished.I was inspired to read the book after listening to an audio about a father who watched his son's love for baseball, be cut short as he tried out for the High School team and was cut. This sent the son on the "normal" teenage path of bad choices, friends who were bad influences, and ultimately a party that changed his son's life.The father came home from a family outing that the young man, who was 14 at the time, decided not to go on. What he found once he got home, was the remains and evidence of what had been a wild party. With fire in his eyes, and not knowing what to do, he chased his son to his room, bent him over his knee and spanked him. Further discussion came with the price of not knowing what further consequences would be, but for the immediate future, he was grounded. Shortly after this experience, the father came across this book. The new consequence would be, his son could be ungrounded once he read the book and wrote a report about what he had learned from the book, not just a report about what the book was about. The young man has since started his own free enterprise business, leads others in the fight of free enterprise education, and continues to grow and inspire others his own age and is only 18.My oldest son is now 14 and he excels in school. He should only be in 8th grade, but is dual enrolled in both High School and College as a freshman, taking a handful of sophomore classes. He also has his own business as a subcontractor doing miscellaneous jobs to earn money. Because school comes so easy for him, he doesn't push himself to his limits or full potential. His spare time and all of his money is drowned in video games and he knows everything there is to know about the Zelda Universe.He recently asked my wife and I if he could skip a couple days of school to buy the newest game system and the newest Zelda game that came out the same day. Neither of us liked the idea, but we also knew how hard he had worked to save up the money to achieve his goal. At that point I made a deal with him. He could have the 2 days off of school if he agreed to read this book and write a 2 page report of what he learned from the book.I gave him this challenge a month ago, 02/02/17. My wife, in her infinite wisdom, 2 weeks later, challenged me too read and finish the book before he did. She thought it would be a good idea for me to be able to discuss what I'd learned from the book with him once we were both done reading it. He finished late last night, I finished this morning 03/01/17. I look forward to reading his report and discussing my goals and the hard things I plan on accomplishing this year. My hard things include significant weight loss, tripling my income, and taking my entire family (I'm a sole provider of a family of 9) on a 2 week long tropical getaway. 2017 will be my best year!

My 13yo dd grabbed this up before my 15yo ds could (I bought it for him), and she has been challenging herself to make and keep routines, be more helpful, and even wants to start a non-profit helping the homeless now! She has all kinds of great ideas. I haven't read the book yet myself, but just judging by her response, I am impressed!

This is a book that can change every teenagers life. The message that God has a plan for your life and it starts now, not when you turn 21, is so inspirational to a young person who wants more. This message can plant a seed in your heart that grows into a deep belief that God has bigger ,greater plans for you when you trust Him.

They say some good things in this book, but I wasn't looking for the sole reason to do something "hard" is for God. I am not taking away the value of doing something for God or believing, but I feel that pushing the connection with God could have been in another book. I didn't understand the authors background ahead of time - my fault. This is not a book my children will connect to. It would be great for a church youth group though.

I bought this book for my daughter and granddaughter. It is written by two homeschooling brothers who discovered a secret most teens are missing-that they are capable of doing way more than we give them credit for! A must read for all youth groups and middle to high school kids! Our daughter is a high school sophomore and read this and gave her class a book talk on it-very important stuff here. Makes a wonderful gift for teens, especially those who are leaders.

Purchased this book for my 15 year old son for Christmas. He doesn’t “love” to read but we make it a priority as a family. He came to me yesterday and said “mom this book is a page turner!” He is inspired, motivated, and has enjoyed reading. I would highly recommend!

We read this in our youth group and it's an incredible read! Really inspired many of our youth and transformed their lives! We bought theses two copies for our kids as a summer reading project. They are really enjoying their read of them! Incredible for teens to help them believe they can do way more than society expects of them!
