I am a ministry leader at my church and I wanted to learn how to attract, engage, and retain more members. This book was a great resource.I had a sense of guilt reading through this book as I realized that I did not belong to a "Welcoming Church." We were a very close church, but suffered from many of the conditions listed in the book, that would make it intimidating for guests to feel connected.
All churches desire to be known as welcoming, but lack well thought out strategies to get them there. Rainer in this little book presents both a compelling argument on why being a welcoming church is a gospel issue and gives implementable insights on how churches can begin cultivating this core competency. This book is not only for the pastas but for anyone who is interested in spearheading a welcoming and inviting culture.
This is an essay that was stretched into a small book. The author even called out where he was redundant and irrelevant with burger commercials and several introvert self-references. At least he was aware of the padding. There are some good points here, but this a topic that needs a more serious and thorough book.
Book is good reading. It is short though. Many good common sense points we take for granted. Definitely worth getting. Does seem to represent big churches much more.

The book is very short, but should be essential reading for decision makers in churches. From the awkward opening handshakes, to the importance of a solid website, the author has a very good understanding of how congregations are perceived by people outside of your members. Its very hard for your every Sunday members to see how outsiders feel. This book will shine some light on this.
If your church is struggling with a Visitors MInistry (or whatever your churches equivalent is...), this is a great book for your team to get the ball rolling. While it doesnt just provide everything you might need, it caused me to analyze our churches methodology much closer.
