A great introduction from very basics to advanced concepts in database management. I only hope that I find the time to read the whole book. My course may need only half or so of the chapters. This book is easy to read and no complicated language, one can speed read this nicely.Excellent chapters on Entity relationship diagrams and concepts. I had studied ERDs before through many sources but this is the best. Included ERDs made as in Visio, Oracle, and some other systems like Sybase and others. for comparison; mainly uses its own notation and MS visio style.SQL examples and concepts are very good also, but the style of the book does no break down the SQL statements and explain them piece by piece, they are ok to understand but some folks might find that further explanation would have been good.The exercises at the end of chapters make on think. I haven't done much of those, but they introduce many problems that one can encounter in DB management.Higly recommended.
This book is written in a very easy to read style. The information is thorough and appropriate technical terms are used but things are kept interesting as you move along. The technical terms are well-explained and plenty of visuals are used to illustrate the concepts. I've had to read my way through some very dry IT textbooks so this was a pleasant surprise.
The authors of this book took an approach that is followed throughout the text. They define the problem abstractly, then eventually get down to business with implementation once they feel they have taught you enough about the concepts. If you are looking for a SQL text look else where. If you are looking for a text that teaches concept then detail, then this is your book. It doesn't get into any real amount of SQL until chapter 7, I believe. The reading itself is very easy to follow. Even though the topic is databases, the authors do have some mild humor.

It's a school and one of the easier ones to read, it's not incredibly boring like most. I actually learned a lot from the book and the class I took. I would recommend it to students and teachers.
This has been a great book for my database class. It is an easy read and makes a number of database concepts easy to understand.
