About the Author
Tony Mitton is a widely anthologized children's poet, as well as a teacher and performing poet. His Royal Raps won the 1997 Nottinghamshire Libraries/Dillons Children's Book Award. His recent collection of poetry, Plum, won the Publishers Weekly 2003 Cuffies Award for Best Book of Poetry. Tony teamed with illustrator Ant Parker on several books, including Dazzling Diggers, Roaring Rockets, and Terrific Trains. Ant Parker studied drawing and printing at the Bath Academy of Art in England and has taught papermaking, printing and bookbinding workshops for children. These books are darling! The truck bookcase is really cute too. My autistic 3 year old (now a 4 year old) still loves these books, especially the train, tractor and car ones. I only deducted one star because for the age audience these appeal to, they should probably not have paper pages. I have had to do a lot of repair on his favorite ones. Otherwise the stories themselves and pictures are really great. Each pages rhymes. This is a great concept for a set of books as it seems most little boys at least love all things vehicles. Highly recommend this set. It would make a great gift!
I ordered this set after reading Amazing Airplanes elsewhere and my 2yo really enjoying it. The stories are absolutely wonderful--very educational (I learned so much about tractors that I never knew!) and with a nice cadence (the lines rhyme). They are small books, and I've taken a picture of one next to the regular-sized version and a dollar bill for comparison. But the size doesn't bother my toddler. Easier to throw in a diaper bag! And you can't beat the price. They are a huge hit at my house.
It's just a little flimsy for my liking: this set won't survive very long in the hands of a toddler. The storage box is only somewhat stable when all 10 books are in, otherwise it tips over. Also my toddler gets frustrated trying to put the books in: they have to be placed rather carefuly. My biggest compain though.... Yes the pictures are colorfull and cute but i can't figure out what animals are shown in those pictures! When i start saying: this and this are flying on the airplane, i have no idea who "this" is! Also, i couldn't find which books were included before i bought this set. I was disappointed not to find helicopters and motocycles; i had to order those separately. Overall kids seem to like them a lot but mom wishes for more realistic pictures.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought these. I completely relied on the other positive reviews, assuming I wouldn’t be led astray ... and I wasn’t! My 2 year old son absolutely loves these books! They have a nice flow to them when you read them out loud and are educational, too. I’m really glad I invested in this set.
OMG my boys love this collection. The books are simple, well illustrated and great for all kids at story time. I have read each book in the collection at least a few times and I actually enjoy them as well. So if you have a kid in your life that likes boats, cars, trucks, rockets, submarines, etc., get this collection and have some fun reading to them.The one very minor piece of feedback I have is, the final page where it has the parts of each boat, car, fire truck, whatever, each main item should be its own page. While there is great information in there, the type and picture are too small. That is the page my boys ignore completely. Somehow they just skip over it. It is not enough to take a star off, but if the authors make more, and I hope they do, I hope my feedback is listened to.
These children's books are worth every penny that you spend on them. They are colorful, fun, and educational. My 4 yo and 7 yo love them. The 4 yo received them for Christmas and for the following 3 months they would alternate picking out their bedtime story from this assortment. They did not tire of them, and surprisingly, neither did I! The vocabulary lesson that is included is great, and the flow of the story is delightful. I would highly recommend these books as a gift or as a 'just because'... they are very special.
One of my daughters favorite books it the roaring rockets book. One night we were looking at the other books on the back cover and I decided to surprise her with this set. She loves reading about the other trucks, cars etc. She likes to talk about all the machine parts listed in teh back of the book. My only complaint with these books is the size. They are probably a perfect size for a kid to read but they are a little small for an adult to read the their kid when putting them to bed. As another review states... all the books do sound the same but I think that is the fun in it. Cute books in a cute stand.
These books are fantastic. We bought them for our 2 (now 3) year old last Christmas, and a year later they are still in great shape and some of his favorite books.They are very well written and engaging. My one year old will even sit and listen to a whole book. My three year old now loves to tell everyone about the different vehicles and their parts.I enjoy these so much that we may buy a second set as a backup in case the first set ever need to be replaced. Well worth the price.
We had the paperback version of one of these books, but the pages were too large for our two-year-old and the pages tend to rip.The books in this set, however, are just right for our kiddo! He loves to grab on and "read" it to himself. The pages are not in danger of ripping.The books are awesome. They help explain logistics and even physics behind various vehicles.Definitely recommend!
