While there is some introduction to characters, the protagonist is always the country itself. While researching a book to read, I learned that there are very few Andorran authors…and even fewer Andorran books about Andorra. So I chose this one for the information I would glean from it.The Good: She details customs, quirks, and cultures of the region with a journalist’s voice–never as someone who is fully absorbed in the moment. For my purposes (wanting to learn more about the country), this is exactly what I wanted.The Bad: this isn’t necessarily compelling literature. The reader doesn’t get attached to anyone, they don’t elicit sympathy or strong emotions. It’s like reading a travel book before a trip: it’s business, not pleasure.
