This CD jumps around with sentences that are outdated and not very practical. ("I need Black and White film only", "Can you transfer my pictures on my film to a CD?", "Where is the public phone?", "My pillow is not clean", "I want color film, please"....etc.). Also, the translations are not accurate. Sometimes the English says "please", but "please" is not on there in Mandarin. The sentences jump around with no apparent order. Chinese on the Move is less expensive and so much better. I learned so much from that one and wanted to try out another. This Lonely Planet one was not very good, unfortunately.
The level of instruction is far too rapid for even a person with a small grounding in Mandarin. Phrases on the CD are too long and complicated to repeat. Vocabulary is stilted. I do not recommend this at all.
I love the content but wish Lonely Planet sold a larger size book. I understand the convenience of the small size for travel, but I like to use my book as a study tool at home and feel it would be much easier to use if the print were larger.
Lonely Planet do NOT need more reviews - same good quality as others in series - good stuff guys!...Although, I did wait for this one to come out, as it was an improvement on the last... so buy the most recent version!

Handy reference
The phrasebook is very good, as usual. But why oh why did the Lonely Planet people put such an inferior audio cd with it? No titles within the cd, just some 96 unlabelled tracks, no repetitions, doesn't follow the book in any cohesive form. The WORST CD for language I've ever heard - why would they put out such a poor product, very disappointed in Lonely Planet. Will be VERY careful with any of their products after this ..... what has happened at Lonely Planet?
it says it comes with audio, but it doesn't& it costs way too much for it to be without audio
