I have to state, at the beginning, I was NOT prepared for the ending. What? I'm done?I enjoyed meeting the characters - each is as important as the other. But with the last page, there is quite the shift that is so unexpected...Now I need to find the next book to, hopefully, answer a few questions. But I really dislike when a story does not end within the covers - that is a pet peeve of mine... If book 2 does the same thing I know I won't read on...

It took forever to get the girl where she was going then the story ends! Abruptly! Just like that! No, I will not go buy the next book just to be dragged through another one that will end abruptly with no resolution! Wish I had known bc I wouldn't have read it!

As usual, another series by Lauraine Snelling which is tops. Her characters are well thought out as well as the plot. I always have to buy the series because I love the dependence on God throughout her books that actually helps me in my own life. The only thing better would be being able to find the exact scripture I need in all like situations in the Bible itself. I highly recommend this series of books.

Book goes on forever describing everything they eat, what they wear, their animals, their past etc etc!! Although it was interesting and well written I like more action. The book ends very abruptly with very little closure to the characters lives. I won't be reading the next book!!!

I kept waiting for something to happen. The book alternated between two viewpoints but I never identified with either - perhaps the characters could have been better described? Cassie was a wild west performer who was used to an easy life and constantly worried about her father's ranch; Ransom was a rancher with no defining characteristics. The book endedSPOILER ALERT ... when Ransom's mother and Cassie met and discovered there was no problem. End of story. HUH?END SPOILER ALERT. I'm giving the book two stars because the technical writing was good - no mistakes in word usage, etc.

I really dislike CLIFFHANGERS. There should be a warning about them in the about this book. I like the story, hated that there was no end.

When the Wild West Show that has been Cassie's whole life shuts down abruptly, she and a few friends head off to find the special valley her late father always spoke of; meanwhile, Ransom and his family are working to keep their ranch -- in that exact valley.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 3 -- Plot has unique elements and no major holes. I liked the way we see Cassie adjusting to her new, and very different, life: learning skills that seem basic to others, and also searching for answers in the accumulated junk in assorted drawers. The juxtaposition of Ransom's story at the same time was also intriguing. But then the story ends so abruptly. It's absolutely incomplete (walk off a cliff, not a cliffhanger). I grudgingly understand the marketing tactic, but I hate it. The ending answers absolutely no questions. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow.Characters: 5 -- Relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. Even minor characters have depth, as do the relationships between characters. Lots of very unique personalities, and their actions, reactions, and interactions ring very true. The tense sibling relationship between Ransom and Lucas was interesting, as were the hints that their mother Mavis has some secrets she's keeping. Cassie's frustration at her companions' reticence was believable, as were her forays into hunting, shopping, and asking for help from local law and clergy along the way. Lots of good depth and realism, even if we don't get to find out how they all interact.Mechanics and Writing: 4.5 -- Few, if any, typos or word errors. Good use of POV (mainly Cassie and Ransom, with a few small sections of Mavis near the end). Generally skillful writing. There were a few sentences that seemed a bit odd, if not necessarily wrong. But mainly it's well written. Though (have I mentioned?) incomplete.Redeeming Value: 4.5 -- Partially focused uplifting themes or lessons. Cassie is feeling adrift and unsure in many ways, and though she acknowledges God's provision along the way, she's also aware she hasn't really been actively seeking God's direction in prayer or the Bible. Ransom is trying to pursue his own dreams, despite other obligations and resistance from his family. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified, and Ransom and Mavis take a strong stance against the drinking, gambling, and so on that Ransom's father and brother tended to indulge in.Personal Enjoyment: 2.5 -- I liked it, up until it didn't end. I wouldn’t mind re-reading it someday, but only if I also had the rest of the story.

This book leaves you hanging like no other. Really ticked me off. Should have been a warning. Buying the next book should be optional.

Madeliene L'Engle's "Wrinkle in Time" was one of the few young adult books that I actually read when I was a young adult. I loved it then and have read it repeatedly in the past 40 years. My current passion for graphic novels and adaptations led me to this version by Hope Larson.Unlike some graphic novel adaptations, Larson had to abridge this story to some extent. The other issue I had with this book was that the characters did not appear as I had envisioned them. But the former was a necessity and the latter was a matter of personal interpretation, and neither detracted from the quality of this book.The adaptation follows the story of Meg and company closely. Larson chose a difficult book to illustrate. Characters such as Aunt Beast and IT might be better left to the imagination. While the art is good, I would have liked it to have used as much color as the cover.My original intention was to reread L'Engle's version before I read this adaptation, but graphic novels draw me into them and don't let go until I have made it to the last page. It has been at least 10 years since I last read "Wrinkle," and it may be best that I didn't read it right before this book; I didn't make direct comparisons of descriptions and dialog, and that probably made this graphic novel more enjoyable.Looking at Hope Larson's work, I see that she collaborates on original stories and has others illustrate them. Even though I don't see myself reading Larson again, I would recommend her work to children or young adults. Like "Wrinkle" her other works seem to include the important questions that good juvenile and young adult literature should ask.---------A note about reading this on Kindle: This is the third graphic novel I have read in an electronic format. One book was a Kindle enhanced version of "Trillium," which had an option that allowed for swiping from frame to frame instead of page to page. There was not enough opportunity to zooming in on the frames to make the reading easier. In addition, the material was presented one page at a time instead of in a full-spread format to see opposing pages at one time. This prohibiting seeing splash art as it was created by the artists.There was an improvement in "Will 'o the Wisp," published in Adobe Digital Editions format. There was an opportunity to zoom in as much as desired, but I found bouncing back and forth between full-page mode to see the art and zoom mode to be able to read the words was somewhat cumbersome.However, I would have loved to have had either zoom option with "Wrinkle." This Kindle book version did not let me zoom in on any of the individual frames, and so I actually had difficulty reading the text at all. If I hadn't already had much of the story and dialog memorized from frequent reading of the L'Engle's book, I would not have been able to read it, and would have asked for my money back.I will hesitate reading other comic books and graphic novels in electronic format in the future, unless I know that I will have the ability to read the text in addition to seeing the art in double-page format as intended by the authors and artists.

I am so excited to use this book with my special education class. I am actually going to read the full novel while projecting the graphic novel on the Promethean board so the students can have a visual support. We will also compare and contrast the novel, graphic novel, and new movie. I also had the school order several paperbacks so the students have a book in their hands. I haven't done this before but have high hopes. I decided to do it this way because the text in the graphic novel assumes background knowledge that my students may not have. Also, there is a subtle difference between in drawing style and color between actual action and Meg's internal dialog. I have lost the thread a few times myself and am carefully making notes so I can explain what's happening to my students.

An excellent graphic version of the classic novel. I wish it was more colorful, but it is beautifully drawn. It is an exciting adventure of three kids traveling through time and space, explaining the science along the way, with the help of three magical old ladies to rescue a missing man. If only SOME CHARACTERS could manage that...

Bought this as a gift for an 9-year old girl. I wanted to buy her a book that would nurture her budding scientific mind, but was afraid the print version would be too difficult for her at a young age -- though I really wasn't sure, I just remembered reading it as a pre-teen. I played it safe and got her the graphic novel in the hopes it would turn her to the print version as she got older. She loved this book. Her father, who was a fan of the original, also sincerely loved this graphic novel. It ended up being a great gift.

I originally read the novel several decades ago, and consider it one of a handful of books I read when young that shaped who I became as an adult reader. When I was assigned this graphic adaptation as part of a graduate class on adolescent literature, I approached it with a great deal of trepidation - just the idea of a graphic novelization of such a loved novel from my past disturbed me greatly. So I was pleasantly suprised to find this adaption to be extraordinarily faithful to the source material. It is obvious to me that the artist held as much appreciation for the novel as I did, and that appreciation shows in every panel, as well as in the overall presentation of the material. Well done! And a big thanks to Hope Larson for showing such love and respect to Ms. L'Engle's original words.

I usually really like Rick Steve's guides. This one is HORRIBLE. There are none of the interesting hotels or different places to find like the one on Switzerland. This one is cut and dry. Very little new or useful information that you can't find on the internet. Don't buy it- The only help it gave was tour guides and prices. I could find that on line. I wanted information on Tours but there was NOTHING. They just refer you to Amboise- forget Tours. Actually the tours out of Amboise run out of Tours as well. This book just isn't up to snuff with the other guides. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the useless guide.

We traveled through the Loire Valley this spring on our way to Ile de Re and used this book extensively. It was great for pointing out less frequented places to visit, places the majority of tourists often overlook. I found the information to be truthful, accurate, and a real help. We had made no advance reservations, were just bumping around from place to place with this book in hand. It turned out to be one of the best holidays of our lives.

Another great Rick Steve's Travel Guide. I did not realize the small books have the same info as the France Book which is apparently all encompassing. I bought several of the smaller guides but already had the larger one. Only reason to buy this is if this is a newer version. Now I know better. They are smaller so if you are only going to a specific area, they are good, otherwise buy the newest full version of the country that you can since you don't want to carry all of these books along with you when you fly half way across the world.

I wanted to go to Loire Valley for the chateaus but there are so many to choose from and they're all spread out. This book made the planning so easy by telling us all the popular and slightly less popular ones and he gives his recommendation on which ones are definitely worth seeing. He also goes to describe them so you have an idea. He also lists minivan tours (not as creepy as that may sound, they're legit) and sample itineraries. I wish I had gotten the book before I booked the hotel though because we stayed in Tours but he talks about staying in Amboise so he had a lot of details on Amboise (food, hotel, etc) but not Tours.

It's OK but only for absolute new traveller to France. I didn't feel it had a lot of information and was very general. The Loire deserves better : )

Rick really does a great job of condensing the region into a simple, easy to follow plan. He clearly rates the must-see and should-see locations. Makes me want to go there.This is a good, but short book. Not the book for someone planning to spend a long time in the Loire Valley (weeks or months). Rick concentrates on the highlights, which makes the trip easy to plan, but can't possibly list all the things you can do if you want to spend a lot of time in the region.I always enjoy Rick's style. A good combination of practical information on travel, sleeping, and eating, combined with a great self-guided tour of the main sights. Well written and easy to read.

The coverage of this pamphlet is as thin as an oil slick on water. Much of it has been assembled with scissors and paste from other documents (if you don't believe me, see Page 83 where you will find where the scissors cut through words and letters to make a to-fit right hand margin and no editor bothered to notice. But you will notice when you try to make sense of it.) The information is generally sketchy. You can do better online and save the $9 + shipping.

Steves got this right. After my several times in the upper Loire, his information is accurate and timely.
